1967 Fender Super Reverb

The Black-Panel Fender Super Reverb is a favorite touring amp for some of the biggest known players in history. This one came in having been “serviced”, meaning it was completely half-cocked and needing a complete and real restoration. It came with most of the speakers having destroyed cones, poor workmanship on the half thought out cap job, and a full set of bad tubes. Most of the basic stuff needing work was left undone (i.e. electrolytic cap job including bypass caps, new power resistors, new screen resistors, tubes, etc.)

All caps were replaced with upgraded voltage and temperature rated MOD brand electrolytic’s. New 2 Watt Metal Oxide power dropping resistors were installed for better reliability and lower noise floor. New 3 Watt Cement Screen Grid resistors were installed for reliability reasons. New vintage spec correct Carbon Comp 1/2 Watt resistors were installed for the plates of the phase inverter to bring back collector’s grade build quality to the amp.

The amp needed a nearly full set of new tubes: V1 = JJE83CC, V2 = JJ 12AX7MG, V3/V6 = TUNGSOL 12AT7, V4 = JJ 12AX7S, V5 = SOVTEK 12AX7WA, V7-V8 = TAD 6L6WGC-STR Matched Pair, V9 = GE 5AR4. The TAD 6L6WGC-STR are some of the better sounding 6L6’s available right now, being repro’s of the small bottle clear-top GE from the 60’s - were installed. The Fixed Bias was set to a period correct %60 Class AB Plate Dissipation with a B+ of approx 460 VDC. The original GE 5AR4 tested good and was kept for the rectifier. All pots were sprayed out and all hardware was tightened

The customer brought in a set of custom made Fat Jimmy 10” 8 ohm speakers to be installed. These were put in to replace the old blown out/broken originals. A new wiring loom was put in and the speaker cord was lengthened per a request made. This one sounds absolutely perfect and would be proudly owned by any discerning collector/player.
