1971 Fender BanDmaster Reverb

These Bandmaster Reverb amps are really underrated models in the Fender lineup. They sound as good as any other Fender from the era but command lower prices making them a great way to get in to owning a vintage Silver-Panel. This one came in after being worked on many times throughout the past by others and had many mods done to it, as well as having nearly every resistor, capacitor, and much of the wiring redone. However when I got it, the thing made no sound whatsoever. There were many mistakes in the amp with wiring, mods done to the bias supply and resistor values that needed to be undone.

I took this amp back to mostly factory spec while keeping the blackface mods the customer requested. The amp needed a full set of 6 new preamp tubes - 2 Tungsol 12AT7’s for the reverb driver and phase splitter, a Sovtek 12AX7WA for the tremolo oscillator (Not the greatest sounding tube in audio positions - but for jobs like oscillators and reverb drivers this tube will last much longer than others and does not affect tone), a Genalex Gold Lion 12AX7/B759 for the first preamp position in the Vibrato channel, and 2 JJ 12AX7S for V1 and V4. The new pair of matched JJ 6L6GC’s were Fixed Biased to a period correct %64 Class AB Plate Dissipation with a B+ of approx 420 VDC. I did not do the cap job, or most of the resistor replacement in this amp. For cost reasons I decided to leave most of the previous work that while not the prettiest - wasn’t causing any issues. That isn’t my usual MO but it wasn’t an option to completely rebuild the amp from scratch just to satisfy my aesthetic desires.
