1993 kendrick 2112

Kendrick Amplifiers was founded by famed amp guru Gerald Weber in 1989. They started out making boutique hand-wired clones mostly in the style of Fender Tweed era amplifiers but over the years have evolved into producing original designs. This 2112 model is essentially a 5E3 Deluxe but with a slightly different tube complement. Preamp position V1 is a 12AX7 instead of the lower gain 12AY7, and the Rectifier V5 is a slightly more robust 5V4G instead of the 5Y3GT that is normally used. This gives this Kendrick a bit more power and gain, but also less power supply sag than the traditional Fender 5E3 Deluxe.

This amp came in to my shop in completely original condition. Now that this Kendrick is over 30 years old it needs some restoring. Amp was partially restored and repaired with the idea in mind of getting it ready to sell. This amp needed new power/grid resistors, new volume pots and associated parts, almost all new tubes, a new speaker, and cleaning.

All filter/bias/bypass caps were tested and were determined to be in good shape. Due to the age of the amp however it should be re-capped in the next few years. New 2 Watt Metal Oxide power dropping resistors were installed for better reliability and lower noise floor, this was done due to heat damage of the original parts. All power tube grid stopper resistors were replaced with 1 Watt Carbon Film type units for same reasoning. New Alpha brand 24mm 1MA potentiometers were installed for both "Volume" positions as the originals were noisy and one was broken beyond repair. A new 500v Silver Mica capacitor was installed in the tone stack during the pot replacement.

A new Eminence GA-SC64 40 Watt 12” Speaker was installed per customer request. The original Kendrick brand speaker had a paper cone that was deteriorating with tears/holes in a few places.

The original tubes did not test good or were noisy. All were replaced with the exception of the rectifier tube. The final lineup was: V1-V2 = EHX 12AX7, V3-V4 = JJ 6V6S Matched Pair, V5 = NOS SYLVANIA 5V4G. These tubes were picked for best tone and reliability. The 6V6GT’s Cathode Bias was measured at 115% Class AB Plate Dissipation with a B+ of 408VDC. The tube sockets were all cleaned with a De-Oxit treatment to prevent noise from corrosion. The pots were sprayed out and the amp was cleaned inside and out.
