2014 Mesa Boogie Bass Prodigy

I really like Mesa Boogie bass amps, I think they sound fantastic and are built fairly solid as well. Maybe even under-rated in the amp world. This amp came in with a lot of noise and crackling that drowned out the sound of the signal. The culprit was fairly simple - it just needed a full re-tube and bias. I love KT88’s for bass, and this amp has four of them putting out over 200 Watts.

The tubes were all replaced: V1-V3 = JJ 12AX7S, V4-V7 = JJ KT88 Matched Quad. All JJ branded tubes were picked upon customer request for lowest cost and favorite tone. No complaints there as I think JJ makes a great KT88 that just happens to be affordable. The KT88's had to be sourced independently of the usual tube vendors as they were sold out of all 6550/KT88 type tubes. I used personal connections to find these as a favor to the customer. The power tubes were biased to factory spec. All hardware was tightened and amp was cleaned. This guy is ready to gig again.
